Lacing at Orange County Fair

The last two Fridays have been spent at the Orange County Fair in Costa Mesa demonstrating the art of lacemaking to the public. The fair set us up in a small area of the home arts building. We spent the whole day on both Fridays making lace and answering questions from spectators. The two most asked questions are "How do you have enough patience to do that?" and " How come you aren't blind yet?" My answer to the first question is "I have to have patience to do housework not make lace" and the second question is "I have worn glasses all my life and have only been lacing for eight years, so I should be blind already." Actually most people are amazed that anyone still does this and they enjoy listening to the history of lace and how we create it.

In our booth this last Friday from left to right were, Jill, Betty, Carole, Belinda, Ilene, and myself. We did have alot of fun visiting each other and seeing the fair during our breaks. Chris and Julie came down to the fair and stopped by so we could do the fair food (All the food that is no good for you but that you always have to eat ) We also visited some of the exhibits. It is always fun to visit the fair and lace at the same time!
