She did it! Our niece Charlene graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marine Biology. We are so proud of her!
Charlene sent us our tickets to the Science and Engineering Commencement in the mail as well as an invitation to celebrate after at the Rock Bottom Brewery in La Jolla. The ceremony started at 1:00 pm on Sunday so we had to leave around 10:00 am in order to make the drive, park and walk to the Cox Arena.
Once we were inside the grounds of the arena we could look over the fence and down where the graduates were lined up and ready to go in. The arena was filled and we had great seats!
Charlene's grandparents Gene and Jeanette Renck, my sister Allison and brother-in-law Ken,
and Char's brother Dustin were there, as well as her boyfriend Mike.
I was able to take some pretty good pictures of Charlene sitting and walking to the stand waiting for her degree. Her hat says "Hi Mom and Dad".
After the ceremony we met her outside of the arena and the usual pictures were taken with family!
After pictures Charlene took us to her apartment and opened her graduation gifts. We decided to give her two tickets to Disneyland. I think she was pleased with her gift.
We went to the Rock Bottom Brewery at 6:00 and Chris and I had prime rib and visited with all of Charlene's friends and family from the "4-H" days in Aguanga. It was so much fun!
We wish Charlene all the best as she continues her education. She let us know that she is going
on to get her master's degree and would eventually like to get her doctorate and teach at college!
Congratulations Charlene!
